ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Understanding How the Human Body Functions
The Department of Physiology at Autonomous State Medical College, Lalitpur provides Phase I MBBS students with a systematic understanding of how the human body functions under normal conditions. Physiological knowledge forms an essential bridge between basic medical sciences and the study of disease, diagnosis and clinical medicine.
Teaching combines interactive lectures, practical experiments, demonstrations, small-group discussions, case-based learning and early clinical correlation. Students explore how cells, tissues, organs and body systems communicate and work together to maintain homeostasis.
The academic curriculum covers general physiology, blood, nerve and muscle, cardiovascular function, respiration, digestion, kidney function, endocrine regulation, reproduction, the nervous system and special senses. Students learn how these systems respond to exercise, stress, environmental changes and common physiological challenges.
Practical sessions introduce students to haematological investigations, cardiovascular and respiratory recordings, neurological examination, sensory testing and the interpretation of physiological data. These activities develop observation, measurement, analytical thinking, communication and clinical-examination skills.
The department promotes scientific curiosity, academic discipline, ethical conduct and evidence-based reasoning. Through faculty guidance, structured assessment and continuous feedback, students develop the knowledge and professional values required for later clinical learning and responsible medical practice.
