ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Connecting Medical Knowledge with Law and Justice
The Department of Forensic and Toxicology provides undergraduate education in the application of medical science to legal questions, judicial processes, professional responsibilities and public safety.
Students learn about personal identification, age estimation, death and postmortem changes, mechanical injuries, medicolegal examination, forensic evidence, toxic substances and the responsibilities of doctors when preparing records or communicating with legal authorities.
Teaching introduces students to the correct principles of documenting injuries, preserving relevant evidence, maintaining chain of custody, issuing medical certificates and preparing medicolegal reports. Students also learn the importance of informed consent, confidentiality, neutrality and accurate professional communication.
Toxicology education covers common poisons, routes of exposure, clinical manifestations, initial assessment, emergency principles, specimen preservation and circumstances requiring specialist or legal notification. Treatment-related learning is conducted in coordination with appropriate clinical departments.
The department promotes objectivity, scientific reasoning, ethical conduct and respect for human dignity. Students are guided to understand that medicolegal opinions must be based on careful examination, complete documentation and evidence rather than personal assumptions.
